JK to get drugs analyzed at CDSCO laboratories
SRINAGAR, May, 2013: Union Health Ministry’s Drug Control Organization has agreed to open its drugs analysis facilities to Jammu and Kashmir strained by poor infrastructure and witnessing outrage over supply of substandard medicines to the government-run hospitals.
Drug control department intensifies inspection
Kochi, May, 2013: In an initiative to check Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) violation, the Kerala Drugs Control Department has intensified inspection in all the retail shops in Ernakulam region. The Ernakulam region of the Drugs Control Department covers Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Idukki districts. The drive is to zero in on manufacturing companies which are engaged in the unethical practice of overcharging consumers for essential and other drugs.

ENGLAND : The use of antibiotics in primary care is in the spotlight again after new research suggested that their use to treat persistent coughs (not caused by pneumonia) is "ineffective". The European-wide study involved 2,061 patients with acute lower-respiratory-tract infections in whom pneumonia was not suspected, who were randomised to receive either amoxicillin or a placebo. Washington, May, 2013 : Certain types of anti-depressants have been linked to an increase in the risk of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) finds a study in BioMed Central's open access journal BMC Medicine. Awareness of this link should improve identification and early treatment of CDI.
