 130 licences suspended, 25 unlicensed medical shops sealed in Kashmir
SRINAGAR , 2014 : Licences of 130 drug sale establishments were suspended while 25 unlincesed were sealed in the Kashmir Valley during fortnight long special drive conducted by Drug and Food Control Organisation. Officials said that 859 Drug Sale establishments were inspected by various teams of the Organisation from May 12 to 24 in Kashmir division.
 Maharashtra FDA raids city based hospital; seizes illegally stocked medicine worth Rs. 2 lakhs
MUMBAI, 2014: In order to prevent illegal sale of Schedule H1 and other prescription drugs, Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration recently seized drugs worth Rs. 2 lakhs from a suburban hospital in Mumbai. A team of FDA officials raided Sai Siddhi Hospital located at Kandivali East for stocking prescription medicines without license and seized medicines worth Rs. 2 lakhs.
Maharashtra FDA suspends licenses of 7 blood banks & cancels one for violation of D&C Act
MUMBAI, 2014: In order to bring in more accountability towards making safer blood available at the point of care, Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licenses of 7 blood banks and canceled one based on 369 inspections done during 2013-14 across Maharashtra. The state today has 303 blood banks and 3 cord blood banks.
IMA asks doctors to end practice of taking or giving cuts on tests
Medical Council (MMC) to radiologists on cuts, commissions or referral fees seriously, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has told all its members and those of various speciality associations to put an end to the practice. IMA has asked various associations to sensitize their members not to indulge in any unethical practice or else face action in the form of expulsion from the membership and action from MMC.
KSPC initiates prosecution cases against 43 drug stores, suspends registration of two pharmacists
CHENNAI 2014: As part of its strong measures to implement section 42 of the Pharmacy Act, the Kerala State Pharmacy Council (KSPC) has initiated prosecution cases against 43 violators across the state. The violations were found in the community pharmacies operating in various districts. Besides, the Council has suspended the registration of two pharmacists for infringement of Rule 149, 150 and 151 (code of ethics). Breach of section 34 (renewal of licence) was also noted.
 CDSCO to come out with clean basket of FDCs in eight months
MUMBAI, 2014: In a highly anticipated move aimed at curbing the misuse of fixed dose combinations (FDCs) throughout the country, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) is expected to come out with a clean basket of FDCs in eight months time. It is understood that the Centre is working very hard to identify and include only those FDCs which are essential and are rational for use, whereas work is in process to weed out the rest India asks BRICS nations to use flexibilities under TRIPS for increased accessibility to medicines

Maryland, 2014: U.S. Marshals, at the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, have seized more than $11,185,000 worth of unapproved drugs marketed by Ascend Laboratories of Montvale, N.J. and distributed by Masters Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio. WORLD NEWS, 2014: Interpol is celebrating the closure of thousands of illicit online pharmacies in the largest-ever global operation targeting fake medicines.

Spain police seize fake erectile dysfunction drugs, medicines from Asia
MADRID, 2014 : Spanish police said Tuesday they have detained 13 people suspected of selling large quantities of fake medication, including erectile dysfunction drugs and antibiotics, made in Asia over the Internet. The authorities seized nearly 420,000 fake pills during a search of 136 packages found in airmail and luggage in Spanish airports, police said in a statement.  Plea to encourage generic drugs
KOCHI, 2014: The All-Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association has urged the government to encourage the marketing of life-saving medicines in generic names and not as branded ones so that patients will get them at lower prices.
