The Health Ministry is planning to revise the present guidelines for taking action on samples of drugs declared spurious or not of standard quality. This is truly the need of the hour. People supplying fake, sub-standard or falsified and spurious medicines in the market, deserve much severe punishment. More so the manufacturers are the real culprits. They deserve punishment equivalent to a murderer. They are playing with consumers’ lives. The outcome of fake medicines many a times results in the death of patients.  Closely examine the appearance of your medication. Are the pills cracked or chipped? Has the pill color changed? Does it appear a shade different from earlier prescriptions? Manufacturers of both name-brand and generic drugs take great pains to produce drugs of uniform and standardized appearance. Every change to a drug's appearance must go through an approval process, so if the pills look different, they are probably fake.

 Illegally stocked medicines worth Rs 22L seized
AKOLA, February 2014: In a surprise raid, Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials on Sunday seized illegally stocked medicines worth Rs22 lakh from the storeroom of Taori Agency at Akot tehsil town in Akola district. Officials are hopeful of unearthing a big racket operating in the region.

JALANDHAR, February, 2014: The seizure of 13 lakh spasmo proxyvon plus capsules from Sehgal Medical Agencies in Jawahar Nagar by the district drug authorities on Wednesday evening has unfolded that the capsules were being freely supplied to the state during the last three months in spite of the fact that the drug controller general of India (DCGI) had not approved them for supply.
Drugs seized in Mizoram, smuggler caught
AIZAWL, February 2014: A huge haul of drugs valued at Rs 2.4 crore were seized from a house in the city with a narcotic smuggler being arrested. Altogether 1.2 lakh Methamphetamine tablets, a mood enhancer, were seized from the residence of 46-year-old Lalremruata of Chhinga Veng locality last evening, Superintendent of Police CID (Crime) Joseph Lalchhuana told.

MUMBAI, February 2014: In order to deter pharmacists from selling their licenses to illegally run drug stores and taking up employment elsewhere, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has filed FIRs against 10 pharmacists in different cases of cheating and impersonation under different sections of CrPC of IPC across Maharashtra.
