 NEW DELHI, 15 Feb, 2013: For the first time in India as a pilot, patients can get their medicines tested in accredited Government-approved laboratories at extremely low cost with support from Partnership for Safe Medicines India Initiative. FDA issues 'stop-sale' notices to 31 chemists
PUNE, FEB, 2013: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued 'stop -sale' notices to owners of 31 medical stores in the city for not employing a pharmacist, a mandatory requirement for a medical store The officials have inspected 86 medical stores in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad during a drive that started on January 24.
 Over the counter(OTC)sale of 40 more drugs to be stopped by GOVT.
NEW DELHI, FEB, 2013: Some 40 drugs will soon be notified under a new schedule, H1, of Drugs and Cosmetics Act to make it mandatory for chemists to maintain a register of their sales and retain a copy of the prescription. The overall objective of a Drug Regulatory Authority (DRA) is to ensure that medicinal products are of acceptable quality and manufactured and distributed in ways, which ensure their quality until they reach the patient/consumer, and their commercial promotion is accurate.

In December 2011, Dr. Zarir Udwadia, one of India’s leading tuberculosis doctors, reported in a medical journal that he had four tuberculosis patients that were resistant to all treatment, The Wall Street Journal reported. By January, he had a dozen such cases, and 15 soon after.  |

Academics have developed a chromatographic fingerprinting method for spotting adulterants in herbal medicines and supplements. Researchers proposed the process in the journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry as a riposte to counterfeit herbal medicines and supplements.
