Freebies for docs: Government ban set to replace voluntary code Mumbai : The government is planning to make the code of conduct which bans unethical marketing practices doling out freebies and sponsoring jaunts of doctors mandatory on the drug and medical devices industry, making it tighter and providing teeth to it. The code banning cruise tickets, freebies and exotic paid-vacations for doctors, sponsored by drug companies, is voluntary at present, but with concerns being expressed that it lacks "teeth", and with rampant violations, the government seems to be veering around to make it binding by making it a regulation

Health ministry to make it mandatory for physicians to prescribe drugs with generic namesMumbai, Aug 3, 2015: In a bid to further promote the use of generic drugs and also to encourage the rational use of drugs, the Union Health Ministry will soon make it mandatory for all the physicians in the country to prescribe drugs with generic names.
Health Ministry to form NMCN to set up telemedicine infrastructure in all medical colleges Mumbai, Aug 4, 2015: The Union health ministry will soon set up the National Medical College Network (NMCN) as part of its “e-health including telemedicine” programme under which the Ministry will set up telemedicine infrastructure in all medical colleges and institutions to network each other in a phase-wise manner as a greenfield project. The project will be totally supported for five years by the Union health ministry after which the state governments will take over its management.
Maharashtra government forms committee to take action against bogus doctors Mumbai, Aug, 2015: Against the backdrop of the complaints that about 700 bogus doctors are practising in Maharashtra, the State government has formed a committee comprising members from the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), Mumbai municipal commissioner and Mumbai police commissioner. The first meeting of the committee was successfully held recently to discuss the actions to be taken against the bogus medical practitioners or quacks.

EU bans 700 generic drugs for manipulation of trials by GVK BERLIN: The European Union has banned the marketing of around 700 generic medicines for alleged manipulation of clinical trials conducted by India's pharmaceutical research company GVK Biosciences. The largest EU-wide suspension of sales and distribution of generic drugs ordered by the European Commission will come into effect on August 21 and it will be applicable to all 28 member nations, according to Germany's drug regulator, the Federal Institute for Medicines and Medical Products (BfArM).

The lens is a clear part of the eye that helps to focus light, or an image, on the retina. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.
In a normal eye, light passes through the transparent lens to the retina. Once it reaches the retina, light is changed into nerve signals that are sent to the brain.
