There is an urgent need to build awareness amongst the health professionals and Patients to make the reporting system popular and efficient.
Partnership for Safe Medicines ( PSM) India is organizing a National Training Workshop on “Secured Medicines & Robust Pharmacovigilance - Key to Patient Safety & Health” , in collaboration with Government of India, State Governments, Consumer Organisations and Pharmaceutical Industry
On 23rd August at Bangalore and 26th August 2013 at Mumbai
This training initiative is to further strengthen the system and enable the healthcare providers to use the infrastructure effectively. It has been observed that Patients hardly report ADRs ( adverse drug reactions ) and the hospitals, doctors and nursing staff are also unaware about such facilities in the interest of the patients and Science of medication.

CHENNAI, Aug 2013: Kerala is getting the distinction to be the first state in the country to have pharmacy inspectors in all the districts for strict enforcement of Pharmacy Act 1948. Government of Kerala in last week accorded sanction to appoint seven more pharmacy inspectors on a proposal submitted by the state pharmacy council.

Over 22 lakh tablets, including banned drug, seized
PATIALA, AUG 2013: In one of the major drug recoveries in the state in recent years, the Patiala police claimed to have seized over 22 lakh tablets of various formulations, including 2.8 lakh tablets of banned drug, near Shambhu barrier on Monday. The drugs were seized from a truck coming from Delhi to Ludhiana by a joint team of drug authorities and the district police.

Rs.19 lakh worth phensedyl seized at Bangladesh border
NEW DELHI, Aug 2013: The Border Security Force (BSF) seized a huge consignment of phensedyl valued Rs.19 lakh at the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, a BSF official said Tuesday. The consignment was seized from east Barjala area in Tripura Monday during a joint operation by police and BSF's 29 and 89 battalions on specific information.

Sharp Rise in Emergency Department Visits Involving Zolpidem

ROCKVILLE, 2013: A new report shows that the number of emergency department visits involving adverse reactions to the sleep medication zolpidem rose nearly 220 percent from 6,111 visits in 2005 to 19,487 visits in 2010. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) report also finds that in 2010 patients aged 45 or older represented about three-quarters (74 percent) of all emergency department visits involving adverse reactions to zolpidem.
