 Kerala becomes first state in India to have pharmacy inspectors in all its districts
CHENNAI, Aug 2013: Kerala is getting the distinction to be the first state in the country to have pharmacy inspectors in all the districts for strict enforcement of Pharmacy Act 1948. Government of Kerala in last week accorded sanction to appoint seven more pharmacy inspectors on a proposal submitted by the state pharmacy council.
 FDA Suspends Drug Inspector
PUNE, Aug 2013: In a first, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended a drug inspector and issued show cause notices to a joint commissioner and an assistant commissioner for neglecting duty.
Over 22 lakh tablets, including banned drug, seized
PATIALA, AUG 2013: In one of the major drug recoveries in the state in recent years, the Patiala police claimed to have seized over 22 lakh tablets of various formulations, including 2.8 lakh tablets of banned drug, near Shambhu barrier on Monday. The drugs were seized from a truck coming from Delhi to Ludhiana by a joint team of drug authorities and the district police.
Rs.19 lakh worth phensedyl seized at Bangladesh border
NEW DELHI, Aug 2013: The Border Security Force (BSF) seized a huge consignment of phensedyl valued Rs.19 lakh at the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, a BSF official said Tuesday. The consignment was seized from east Barjala area in Tripura Monday during a joint operation by police and BSF's 29 and 89 battalions on specific information.

ROCKVILLE, 2013: A new report shows that the number of emergency department visits involving adverse reactions to the sleep medication zolpidem rose nearly 220 percent from 6,111 visits in 2005 to 19,487 visits in 2010. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) report also finds that in 2010 patients aged 45 or older represented about three-quarters (74 percent) of all emergency department visits involving adverse reactions to zolpidem.
