SRINAGAR, April, 2014: What may have caused major health complications among people in Kashmir, large stocks of substandard medicines have been consumed in the Valley, a report by Drug and Food Controller Organization (DFCO) has revealed.

Haryana drug authority to inspect Nimesulide-paracetamol pills

NEW DELHI, April 2014: In a move that could affect sales of drug majors like Wockhardt, Lupin, Glenmark and Ranbaxy, the regulator has restricted usage of painkillers tramadol and tapentadol. Based on the recommendations of the new drug advisory committee, the usage of these two drugs — and their fixed dose combinations — has been limited to severe acute pain for a period not exceeding five days since these medicines have potential for respiratory depression and addiction. NEW DELHI, 2014: The head of the department of anaesthesiology at AIIMS has written to the medical superintendent of the hospital over “poor quality of life-saving drugs” after her husband suffered reactions from two drugs provided by the hospital. MUMBAI, April 2014: Some of the pharmaceutical companies are understood to be selling more essential medicines at higher prices after altering the therapeutic dosages just to evade Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) as in the recent case of paracetamol formulations. Atorvastatin, a cholesterol drug, is being marketed in dosage forms of 20 mg and 40 mg as against the 10 mg dosage prescribed by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority.
