Simple ways to Relieve Period Cramps!

Millions of women experience cramps before or during their periods. Cramps are caused by prostaglandins (say: pross-tuh-GLAN-dinz), chemicals a female body produces to make the muscles of the uterus contract. The contracting muscles help push the blood out through the vagina during their period.

 

Periods usually come once a month. Sometimes, younger girls aren't that regular, so they may skip a month. But as a girl's periods get more regular, they often suffer from the severe period cramps. These cramps can be mildly annoying to extremely painful, and usually last for a few days.

 

Though there are medicines available, but it just provides short-term relief. And consuming too many medicines is just not good for health. One can try some simple ways which helps to get relief from the period pain.

 

Here are a few simple ways to get relief from period cramps:

 

Hot water bag

 

While having menstrual cramps, one should use a hot water bag or a heating pad on their abdomen as the heat helps in reducing the pain and may provide some relief. It also helps to loosen and relax muscles. So, put the hot water bag on your belly until the time the pain reduces.

 

Drink lots of water

 

Staying hydrated can help ease cramps. But drinking warm or hot water is more effective as hot liquids increase blood flow and may relax cramped muscles.

 

Exercise and Stretch

 

Start exercising daily, especially during periods as it loosens up your muscles and helps to get relief from menstrual cramps. Exercise releases hormones called endorphins, which acts as a natural pain killer.

 

Drink a cup of ginger root tea

 

Ginger contains chemicals called gingerols and shogaols which relaxes the smooth muscle that lines the intestinal track. Drinking a cup of Ginger root tea will helps in reducing the agonizing period pain.
