Russia has not yet handed over all data for WHO approval of the Covid vaccine
Moscow, December 14, 2021:
Russia has not yet passed all the information needed for the flagship Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine to be approved by the World Health Organization due to differences in regulatory standards, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.
Moscow rushed to approve the Sputnik V shooting in the country last year, but it has never been certified by either the WHO or the European Medicines Agency, the EU’s drug regulator.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the certification process was underway when asked what caused the delay.
“Sure, we had different understandings of exactly what the information is and how it should be presented, so how many we need to provide for certification we haven’t yet provided. I have that information, “he said.
“We have different standards, etc. Therefore, we are gradually adapting to these requirements and expect good results from this work.”
Russia has approved four vaccines for domestic use and there are no other shots available domestically. Some Russians went on a trip abroad to get vaccinated.
