NPPA releases revised price list of 631 products under five medical devices

New Delhi, July 26, 2021:

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has released price listing of 631 medical devices, which falls under the five medical devices it capped trade margins at 70 per cent at the Price to Distributor (PTD) level earlier this month.

The NPPA, in an office memorandum on July 14, 2021, had directed manufacturers and importers of pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitoring machine, nebuliser, digital thermometer and glucometer, to submit the revised MRPs of their products following the rationalisation of trade margin it imposed.

The prices of 156 pulse oximeter products, 216 blood pressure monitoring devices, 137 nebulisers, 88 digital thermometers and 34 glucometers were submitted by the manufacturers and released by the NPPA on July 23.

The prices of pulse oximeter, after the trade margin rationalisation, stand between Rs. 489 to Rs. 60,000 a unit.  Prices of some of the products have come down from over Rs. 4,000 per unit to around Rs. 1,000 a unit.

Blood pressure monitoring device prices range from Rs. 470 to around Rs. 1,65,850 a unit, according to the list released by the Authority.

The State Drug Controllers of all State and Union Territory governments shall monitor availability of these medical devices at the notified prices. Any instances of hoarding, black-marketing and over pricing shall be viewed seriously and an appropriate action may be initiated by the State Drug Controller concerned under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, under intimation of the NPPA, it added.
