Kottayam: FIR Against 2 Doctors And Labs For Misdiagnosis

Thiruvananthapuram, 9 June 2019: The Gandhinagar police in Kottayam district on Saturday filed FIR against two doctors of Kottayam Medical College Hospital and two private labs for misdiagnosing and subjecting a woman without cancer to undergo chemotherapy.

 

The FIR was registered against doctors Renji and Suresh Kumar K and Dianova laboratory, run by a former pathologist of the hospital, and CMC diagnostic centre.

 

"IPC sections 336 and 337 has been slapped against them,"police sources said.

Section 336 relates to "act endangering life or personal safety of others" while 337: "causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others."

 

The victim, 38-year-old Rajani V of Kudassanadu in Alappuzha district had lodged a police complaint in this regard.

 

The case: Rajani had sought treatment on February 28 for an unnatural growth on her right breast. She was subjected to chemotherapy after test conducted at a private lab revealed a small area of malignancy on her breast. Later on the report of the medical college hospital revealed the growth was non- cancerous.

 

Soon after the incident came to light, health minister K.K.Shailaja had asked the hospital authorities to conduct a probe and submit a report. Mumbai Mirror
