SUPREME COURT DIRECTS ALL STATES TO FILL VACANCIES IN CONSUMER COMMISSIONS WITHIN 8 WEEKS

In a matter that has been taken up by the Apex Court of the country suo moto (meaning: on its own accord), data was presented to the Court showing that 514 out of 990 posts were vacant in the District Consumer Commissions and 72 vacancies in the State Consumer Commissions while 8 bodies are functioning without Presidents. Calling this situation “Completely Unacceptable”, the Supreme Court of India has directed all the States to fill all vacancies in all Consumer Commissions within a period of 8 weeks. The Court has further stated that the Chief Secretaries of the States shall be summoned to Court if the said direction is not complied with.
BREAKING NEWS : Supreme Court clarified that Bombay High Court Can Proceed to Decide Validity of the Consumer Protection Rules of 2020. The original Order of the Supreme Court and the coverage has cleared the way for the lower courts to move ahead with their proceedings that directly impact the welfare of the consumer.
