DANGEROUS AYURVEDIC PRODUCTS
Out of 244 samples of ayurvedic medicines sent to KEM’s Ayurveda Research Centre (ARC) over the past five years, 39.34% were found to contain steroids like betamethasone, dexamethasone and prednisolone.
This information was divulged in response to an RTI application filed by a chemical consultant and RTI activist, Dr. A. Shenoy, who alleges that many doctors add steroids to ayurvedic extracts to effect speedy cures. These adulterated substances, sold as remedies, may bring instant relief, but gradually lead to conditions like chest pain, nervousness, weight gain and swollen joints, Dr. Shenoy contends.
